Classfees & Expenses Published by Achim Schlöffel on 2009-06-22

As I was asked several times from Students as well as from Instructors.

ISE does not support any discounting of class prices. Those are fixed and not to be discussed. Customers should not choose there Instructor by the price of the class. Another subject is the travel-cost and Expenses. Instructors are free to handle the subject as the want but I would like to give some thoughts and recommendations.

Over the past decade I travelled around the world several times and taught in variety of environments and circumstances.

I always charged the actual travel-expenses based on the cheapest and at the same time acceptable way of travel.

On top of that it is less of a question how much an instructor charges but for what. I always stated that I need a bed, a shower and a toilette for myself. I had great classes where I stayed private with my students but also nasty experiences where I was "parked" on a rotting matrace on the floor in the basement. Therefore in the recent years I charged a fee of 100 Euros / day. In Europe this assures a regular hotel-room and a hot meal.

If I teach in less developed areas with a clearly lower average income I adjust to this scenario. I often heard the argument that I would have to eat at home as well and therefore could not charge for food.

In fact it is far cheaper and much mire time consuming if I go shopping and cook at home. my students expect that I donate as much time as possible to them which includes the meals usually. Overall it can be said that if You look at the overall cost of a class, the instructor expenses that are shared amongst all students are fairly small and should not be a critical point. AS
